Cyclogeographies: 52°

‘I’ve formed the opinion that, along with some form of camera, a bicycle is one of the most useful tools for the psychogeographically inclined’ Hugh Marwood, 2013

Psychogeography is usually practiced by navigating urban environments on foot. But what happens if it’s done on two wheels, by bicycle, across an entire country? 52° forms the first part of an ongoing project to explore and find connections with place and space.

This first project began on the Welsh coast, at the village of Llangrannog. Viewed on a map, it lies at the same latitude as my hometown of Aldeburgh on the eastern edge of England. Charting a seven-day journey along back lanes and old drove roads, it seeks to record the visual metaphors and unexpected finds along the way.

The final images and text were presented as a self-published, proof-of-concept journal titled ‘Cyclogeographies’—the first in an ongoing series of projects and publications. Available to buy now in my online store.
