Consumed by Waves

The east coast is an area that saw much building activity during the war. As a potential invasion site the landscape is still peppered with the remains of concrete pillbox defences. It’s also an area of significant coastal erosion and many of the seafront structures have been completely or partially washed away.

On walks along the beach, it’s easy to find pieces of eroded concrete, brick or metal. The last vestiges of what once was. I’m interested in the organic shape and nature these materials take on as they are weathered and always look out for them on the beach. Over time amassing a collection of bricks and blocks used as door-stops, bookends or paperweights.

Reflecting on the ephemeral nature of the materials used, each image is arranged as a mini-sculpture, existing only for the duration of the creation of the image.
